Administration

Directs the operations of the Fire Department and Emergency Management through planning, education, organizational and interdepartmental cooperation and the controlling of budget directives. The Fire Administration is responsible for the direction of Special Services, Suppression, Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Management for the protection of life and property.

Emergency Medical Services

Provide 24 hour emergency medical service for the residents and guests of the City of Bellaire.

Maintain "Advanced Life Support" status of ambulance through the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). This requires that the vehicle be staffed with at least one Paramedic and one Emergency Medical Technician at all time (24 hrs. /day).

Special Services

The Special Services Division provides a cost effective medium in the protection of lives and property from the fire by providing fire prevention measures through:

  • Code Enforcement
  • Education
  • Fire Investigation
  • Record Analysis
  • Training

Other Duties

  1. Recommend Change to and administration of the City Fire Code and Ordinances
  2. National Fire Code Enforcement
  3. Plan Review of Commercial Buildings and Fire Protection Systems.
  4. Public Fire Education in:
    • High Rise Evacuation training
    • Fire education classes for school and civic groups
    • Fire safety training for businesses
      • Evacuation planning
      • Fire extinguisher training
    • Public service announcements on fire safety via city website and access channel
    • Maintenance of all Fire and EMS records. City Privacy Officer

Suppression

Protect lives and property through the prevention and suppression of fires. To assist the ambulance on emergency calls. To perform rescue and mitigation of hazardous materials incidents and/or terrorism events within the city, and mutual aid Cities.

One 1500 GPM Pumper, One ALS Certified Ambulance, and one Command vehicle are maintained in a state of readiness and manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Suppression personnel maintain the Cascade vehicle, Reserve 1500 GPM and all firefighting equipment in a state of readiness. Training is scheduled and fire prevention activities are assigned to each of the three shifts.

Test and record fire hydrant data for ISO rating and insurance scheduling; perform occupancy preplans to improve fire response capability.
