Debris

Storm Sewers and Debris

During the winter season, a common sight around the city is leaves and other debris collecting along the street curbs.  Unfortunately, leaves can clog storm inlets and storm sewers, which contributes to street flooding. Public Works regularly inspects storm sewers and inlets for debris and has a program in place to make repairs as needed.

In preparation for a potential flooding event, the City inspects storm inlets, construction sites and removes debris from curbsides and roadways.  Homeowners can help with this by properly disposing of leaves and cut grass. Please remind lawn maintenance crews not to blow lawn clippings into the inlets, and to take bagged lawn clippings with them. Nothing should be dumped or disposed of in the public streets, ditches, or storm sewer inlets.

For more information, please contact the Bellaire Public Works Department at 713-662-8170.
