Having dealt with issues with fats, oils, and greases (FOG) negatively impacting the City’s sanitary sewer system, like in other cities, Bellaire has adopted a FOG ordinance. The ordinance is modeled after municipal regulations recommended by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The ordinance seeks to provide oversight of grease traps in the City, ensuring that they are registered with the City, as well as proper maintenance and disposal.
The program takes effect on April 1, 2025, and will be managed by the Development Services Department’s Code Compliance division. Like in the City of Houston, grease traps will be subject to an annual registration fee of $150 to minimally offset the costs of implementing the program.
