Adopted Building Codes

The City of Bellaire prioritizes examining and adopting the most recent building codes to meet the latest safety, resiliency, and sustainability standards. The City of Bellaire’s Development Services Department leads this process to ensure that our adopted building-related codes align with national safety standards, the latest industry practices, and state laws, while also cognizant of the scope of the changes and consideration of their impact. The process occurs at least every other code cycle, if not each of the three-year code cycles for the International Code Council Codes (I-Codes) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes. 


The City of Bellaire recently adopted the 2024 International Code Council (ICC) codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC) / NFPA 70 effective February 1, 2026. The code language can be viewed at the following web addresses:
